Statement With memories buried down there exposed unintentionally on a situation, we sometimes experience of forgotten memories brought back all of a sudden. It would either recall a good memory to leave the current harsh reality behind for a while or make us to face sufferings by abruptly exposing memories of experiences hidden. Experience of hidden memories revealed gives us confusion, discomfort, another imagination or realization. Memories that we have avoided or intended to forget even though they have been out there all the time are recalled through experience of touch, smell, sound and space at a certain situation and it makes us face our own time and circumstance as it is. We finally come to see the original form and our true self through memories revisited. It would sometimes bring us bitterness or pain but it rather makes us face the reality and truly free us from circumstances blocked up. StatementA Tool of Tomorrow
#My work, which continued from 2014, started from the question, “how can an image of a metaphoric existence be reinterpreted in real life?” through repetition and compression in a two-dimensional plane centered on objects with metaphor. As I go on this journey that must become closer to the essence of life, I focus on the fact that for us living the present, there are ‘certain common principles’, which are to want to prove the understanding of attitude towards life, existing as ‘laws’, and they work as means of an exchange that enable the constant trade with the way of our lives. I call this a ‘flexible phenomenon’ preceding the notion, and it becomes a subject with subjectivity itself simultaneously. Hence, I write. A place where things come and return. This expression that is still like an optical illusion now, it is also a “coincidence?” or is it “destiny?” No one knows what the truth is. However, what I want to highlight is that we are living in an ambiguous era, where the answer is bound to be pondered regardless of what the answer is. By continuously questioning what will eventually remain and how to understand it, if the source is not the essence and what is visible is not being read, it is to leave the answer as a sort of an example, not a correct answer. Statement At first glance, Kim's work can appear child-like and playful, but they are bizarrely sophisticated because of the labor involved and the concepts explored. For her, art is a creative arena where mythological, spiritual, and illusionary mindscapes mingle into dream worlds. Her artistic practice gravitates towards mixed media sculpture. She relies on various techniques within fibers and ceramics that she combines with mass produced objects. Through these various media, she is challenged to engage the philosophical limits of what craft and art are as well as what they could be. She intentionally scratches the established margins and boundaries within the art world by harmonizing subversive notions: low versus high art, illustration versus fine art, and traditional versus contemporary art. She is drawn to meshing the fantastical with the mundane, the heroic with the cute, and the bubbliness of popular culture with deeper social concerns.

Statement The Symphony Behind the Fabric, 2020 This project explores the woven fabric as a map, and as a score; linking it through time, labor and sound to space. The music is created entirely by the structure of woven fabric. The structure includes different numbers of harnesses, tie-ups and orders to hit the treadle. To create different patterns of the fabric, a weaver must need to setup the warp for the loom, design the tie-up box, and confirm the order that their feet hit the treadle. And this form of structure can be written in numbers, translated into a musical score and then “weaved” into a piece of music. The music hidden in the cloth represents the labor performed by the weavers, so the score here is the evidence of intense labor. The intention of this project is about to explore the relationship of sound and weaving, virtual/abstract and physical, technology and tradition, new and old. It is about how fabric provides a new way to manipulate sound and how to expand our listening ability. It developed a new composition technique and open a doorway for listening to the wider community.

Statement My work explores the interplay between nature, industry and handmade interventions to foster reflection on the process of transformation as an embodiment of reciprocal forces: how the natural, planetary and cosmic exchange with the personal and collective.
From continents to biological cells, environmental forces generate ubiquitous patterns, intimating the presence of a primordial agency which yearns to draw. I dialogue with that artistic essence by manually re-transforming industrial materials originating from the Earth’s core and soil. I create geomorphic works evocative of the sublime as chimeric products of industry willed to reintegrate the complexity of nature.
My works are staged into an idiosyncratic Zen garden, inviting physical and metaphorical circumambulation around concepts of the originary; notions of reality, somatic knowledge, time, memory, and agency relative to the pace of planetary and universal rhythms.
My art aims to reach meditation from energetic agitation, to extract forms from the chaos of memory.

나는 Henri de Toulouse Leutrec의 “I paint things as they are. I don't comment.”

Statement Sea foam is the white foam formed when the sea water crashes other matters. Sea foam is formed all of sudden on the sea only to be absorbed into it. While such a process is repeated, only the crystals would remain with the non-crystals vanished. The process would recycle to help form a whole structure that would be a solid network. Namely, the sea foam is the quintessence and origin of the sea. We start the ritual of spreading the white sea foam onto our body. Hoping that what the sea foam has achieved would be carved on us. And white sea foam we spread on our body will protect us. We will become the white sea foam. We will be a courage for each other. We will be a light for each other. We will be a zero to be near the infinite.

Statement Nature can be said as a space that creation and destruction are endlessly occurred. These characteristics of nature embodying endless changes and dynamics are grafted with the technique using the collage of traditional Korean paper, Hanji, in order to express landscape in the researcher’s practice. During the process, the researcher especially uses the technique that creates a form with layers of lines and pieces of burned paper. The researcher believes that a state of burning essentially represents a process of extinction by putting importance on emptying out what is inside rather than filling in. The researcher’s work is also not about filling in paper but creating a form and a space with layered paper. Thus, the researcher’s practice eventually embodies the principle of a part of natural phenomenon, circulation, from the fact that lines of burned paper paradoxically creates a new image rather than being dissipated. Statement ‘Amuseument’ [Amusement + museum] : A reflection on art and play.'Amuseument' is a compound word of'Amusement' meaning play or pleasure in Korean and'museum' meaning art gallery or museum. I made this phrase based on the fact that play and art regard imitating importance in common. All of the works are completed by the artist imitating children's paintings that imitate masterpieces. The continuity of hybrid imitation, which borrows the eyes of children and reorganizes the imitation, combines awkwardness and skillfulness through many hands, making art and playfulness, high and low value, and blurring the boundaries between the center and surroundings. It is to question the absoluteness of great works and to withhold decisions for the cycle of creation.

Statement Reset is a series of works consisting of experimental images, fashionable dress, graphic vision and suchlike media outputs. It is a practical extension of the author's graduation thesis An Analysis on the Pioneering Shaping of Fashion Elements to Experimental Drama. It conveys the story of the absurd exploration of the relationship between "old mankind", "new mankind", "old Gods" and "foreign new Gods" after people reset their world against the backdrop of electronic era. Based on the development of subculture and the prediction of the future way of wearing, this work is engaged in designing narrative fashion series against the backdrop of the electronic generation after the rest. It adopts an investigative approach to probe into the effects of electronic subcultures on visual, cultural logic, and cultural origins. Based on Freud's psychoanalytic theory, the collection focuses on the relationship between the unity of opposites between reality and illusion in surrealism, and takes the conflict and balance of contradictions in personal subconscious as the research object. By selecting a few contradictory combinations such as ‘squar’ and ‘circle’, ‘positive form’ and ‘negative shape’, ‘left“ and ”right“ etc., this work attempts to deconstruct and reshape the structure, trying to explore a dramatic sense of future to the connection of fashion, human body and internal and external space.

Statement I am an artist living and working in London by way of New York City. Although I have always had an avid interest in drawing, by and large, I am untrained as a fine artist - I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from New York University (2011). As a result I process aesthetic information in a way that is unique if also rough around the edges. However, the absence of a narrowly focused art education has allowed me to explore multitudes of different styles, media, and subject matter unhindered.
Much of my figurative work explores themes of identity, power dynamics, and relationships between persons and groups both now and throughout history. The pieces I’ve submitted for consideration deal more specifically with fear – of god, of nature, of life, of anything and everything – and its ramifications for individuals who exist in a larger social context during a time of crisis.

Statement My work starts from the urge to describe and present the reality in which I live. Through my paintings I capture and reflect on social events, daily habits and objects that echo fragments of the Israeli culture. Local stories and materials form a landscape of life in a rural area, at contemporary times. By emphasizing material elements, such as texture, creating rough lines, and using dense painting surfaces, even grotesque at times, contributes to the general idea of the painting, as the painting technique echoes the dense and chaotic reality. Working with oil on canvas enables me freedom, as a method of constant search within the painting language, and is a tool that allows dedication to the medium’s traditional practice, while simultaneously searching for new forms in contemporary painting.

Statement ‘This belongs to everyone, so enjoy the view’ depicts the alteration of landscapes through digital topography. The fragment of areas assembled together compose an ensemble of imaginary panoramas. Every pattern of land represents a variation of time and space in both the digital and physical world. Merged together, each landscape becomes an abstract vision of mending views, recreating a conceptual, unknown environment. These patchworks of sceneries taken from Google Earth express how diverse a location on our planet can appear through a visual dispositive. These transfigurations were both digitally manmade by the apparatus used to capture the landscape, but also physically transformed by the global warming produced by human beings. Both changes depict the unpredictable development of landscape during this tumultuous time.

Statement My artwork is an act of resilience. I started meditation short after experiencing hard times, then I also needed a physical and external way of meditation. The subjects I choose comes from my surrounding, which I transform into abstraction. I’m infested in some forms of space.
The work consists in the making of a laser cut and print on wood, which I then animate with color. I realize that the preparation process is a form of self-discipline.
As I progress on a piece I feel anxious. But likely a meditation, it’s about the present moment. With the panthers of lines, I find balance within myself by defining a task, so I get the feeling of accomplishing something.
The results are a kind of expression from within me, that I couldn’t accomplish without the creation process. It just makes me feel human and a better person.
